Grafton-Coos Regional Coordinating Council

Who We Are

The mission of the Grafton-Coos Regional Coordinating Council (GCRCC) is the development of a diverse system of transportation options in the Grafton-Coos Region. The GCRCC’s objectives include:

  • Transportation accessible to all; inviting to all ages and all walks of life;
  • Collaboration among human service agencies, municipalities, businesses, and citizens;
  • Expanded public transportation services and options, including volunteers, carpooling, taxi services, and rail, bicycle and pedestrian paths;
  • Transportation within the counties and connections with other regions.

Participants on the GCRCC have included a broad array of organizations and individuals interested in improving community transportation services in the Grafton-Coos Region. The Grafton-Coos Regional Coordinating Council (GCRCC) meets quarterly to share updates and find opportunities to coordinate efforts to provide transportation access to more people within the region.

Lead Agency

Tri County Community Action Program, Inc. has been helping people and changing lives since 1965. Our array of fifty-five different services offered at forty-eight points of access service sites in Coos, Carroll and Grafton Counties assist over 20,000 individuals and families every year. Our strength as a community action agency lies in our service to others and how our programs contribute to making our communities healthy and prosperous places to live.

Our Mission is to provide opportunities to strengthen communities by improving the lives of low to moderate income families and individuals.

Vehicle Repair Program:

The Subsidized Vehicle Inspection and Repair program is designed to target the workforce and those enrolled in school. The goal of the program is to help keep the workforce population safely and legally driving their cars so they can not only continue their employment and or education but also help them to access essential services necessary for everyday living. Pre-Qualified individuals will be eligible for a free inspection valued at $45, and, should they not pass inspection, a quote will be given to include up to $1,000.00 in vehicle repairs to meet that inspection. Only vehicle inspection-related items will be repaired and at the discretion of the Service Center. Additional repairs, outside of the $1,000.00 limit will be at the vehicle owner’s expense. The Service Center retains the right to deny service to any vehicle deemed unsafe for operation. Participating service Centers in Coos County are C4 Automotive, Northern Tire, and Berlin City Auto Group.

This project is an expansion of the project with the North Country Chamber of Commerce; targeting the population of Coos County, those employed and enrolled in school within the County. This project helps to expand the availability of the program within the County.

Berlin City Chevrolet has been a leader in this initiative and if in the Berlin Gorham area the initiative coordinator (Carroll County) is Lauren Simonton, Lsimonton@berlincity.com. For Coos County you can contact Tala Silver, 603-723-4064 or email at tsilver@tccap.org or the North Country Chamber of Commerce.

Volunteer Driver Program (VDP):

Tri-County Transit plans to re-establish a Volunteer Driver Program (VDP) in Coos County which currently offers door-to-door services, feeder services, and
transportation services to the general public. Drivers can assist in bringing people to non – emergency local and long distance medical appointments, shopping, and other errands. Drivers provide trips for people who do not have access to transportation because of age, ability, economic situation or other limiting circumstances. Riders will feel less of a burden on family and friends, will be able to remain independent, will show less hesitation in making necessary medical appointments or social service appointments, eat healthier meals and feel overall less anxious about their transportation needs.

Working closely with North Country Healthcare and local Senior Communities, Low Income Housing, and local Employment Security Offices for clients needing transportation to work and classes. Transportation is a collaborative effort between all members of a community. We anticipate local communities requesting trips to grocery shop, go to the library, employment and social service appointments. These trips are not just for medical. We plan to coordinate these trips with our Current Public Transit Service which is already providing many of these types of trips but do to demand, we need to have volunteers who can take more of the local and long distance trips we currently don’t have availability to provide.

Expansion of Services from Grafton County Senior Citizens Council (GCSCC):

The Grafton County Senior Citizens Council (GCSCC) offers free, accessible, on-demand transportation services at seven of our eight senior centers in Grafton County. The senior center in Orford does not provide transportation, yet the people they serve in that region live in very rural and remote areas. Transportation service would help those residents access their local senior center for social interaction; medical appointments to access care for physical and mental health; grocery stores; pharmacies; libraries; and other essential destinations.

GCSCC is planning a pilot program to offer transportation at no cost for residents of Orford and the neighboring town of Lyme (the two towns served by our Orford senior center). We anticipate that will lead to a permanent transportation program in that region.

Interested in more information or to volunteer you may contact the Grafton County Senior Citizens Council at 603-448-4897.  https://www.gcscc.org/

Advance Transit (AT) Expansion of services:

Advance Transit (AT) will be expanding bus services in Fall 2023 to include later evening and Saturday service, offering greater access to public transportation and better serving community transit needs. AT is dedicated to providing a fare-free resource that expands mobility and provides access to health and community services.  https://advancetransit.com/
