Accessible Transportation for All

Carroll County RSVP

Transportation to medical appointments can be difficult to find, especially if the appointment requires a friend or family member to pick you up after the procedure. With transportation becoming an increasingly prevalent issue for seniors, adults with disabilities, and veterans, Carroll County RSVP has a program in place to provide volunteer drivers and escorts to medical related appointments both locally and long-distance.

What is Carroll County RSVP’s Non- Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT)?

Carroll County RSVP’s Non-Emergency Medical Transportation can be defined s a door-to-door non-emergency medical transportation service provided to ambulatory seniors, individuals with disabilities, and veterans who are not in an emergency situation and have no other means of getting to their medically related appointment. The program allows travel beyond county lines, which is frequently necessary for accessing specialized services. It also allows clients to stay secure, comfortable, independent, and living in their homes for as long as possible.

How does it work?

All volunteers are credentialed drivers receiving motor vehicle and criminal background checks prior to transporting clients. They use their own cars to transport the clients to their appointments and can wait for the duration of procedure before taking them home. The service is offered for residents throughout Carroll County. Rides can be scheduled on weekdays from 9:00am-4pm with the RSVP Transportation Coordinator, and at least a 48-hour notice is requested, but rides cannot be guaranteed as they depend on the availability of the volunteer drivers. Medical transportation service is provided at “No Cost” to the client, however, donations are welcomed.
