Growing Need for Volunteer Drivers

By Cindy Yanski on January 22, 2025

Summary

Volunteer drivers are the unsung heroes who make a world of difference in the lives of seniors and individuals with disabilities, who need help getting to medical appointments, grocery stores, or social gatherings. By volunteering just a few hours a week or month, you can make a significant impact in someone’s life. Go to NHVDP.org to find a program near you.

All across NH, as our communities continue to grow and evolve, so too does the need for a supportive network of volunteers who help ensure that no one is left behind. One area where this support is increasingly crucial is in the provision of transportation for those who are unable to drive due to age or illness.

Volunteer drivers are the unsung heroes who make a world of difference in the lives of seniors and individuals with disabilities, who need help getting to medical appointments, grocery stores, or social gatherings. Unfortunately, the demand for volunteers exceeds the supply, and without enough volunteer drivers, many of our neighbors face the difficult challenge of isolation and limited access to vital services.

By volunteering just a few hours a week or month, you can make a significant impact in someone’s life. Volunteer drivers provide a lifeline that allows individuals to maintain their independence and dignity. For those who may be hesitant to volunteer, it’s important to know that programs provide support and flexibility, making it easier than ever to lend a hand.
I urge members of our community to consider becoming a volunteer driver. It’s a simple, yet incredibly rewarding way to make a positive difference in the lives of others, and in doing so, strengthen the fabric of our community.
